Toys Naturally Giveaway

Today  I am delighted bring a giveaway to you thanks to the lovely Hillary, the owner of Toys Naturally.

Hillary sells a beautiful selection of toys which promote open ended play.  Her company ethos is to provide toys which respect children’s minds by being open ended, simple but beautifully crafted and enticing.

She also firmly believes in preserving the planet for our children so respecting the environment is important. All the toy brands she works with have an environmental bias or she chooses the ones manufactured in Europe with a reduced carbon footprint and air miles. Hillary  packages everything with gift grade tissue and toys naturally seals. She says she uses only card and paper packaging and tape so it can all go straight into the recycling.  When I received a toy from her a couple of weeks ago, I was impressed with the packet. Her enthusiasm shines through it.

The online shop is just over 6 months old now and I really like the customer friendly interface. You can browse the site very easily plus there is a toy finder that enables you to sort the toys according to age, brand, price and gender.
The selection of toys is great, too. Personally I love the Grimms toys most.

I asked Hillary a few questions:

  • What inspired you to start your business? Motherhood :)  I am a veterinarian by profession (who said never work with animals or children?) I worked in companion animal practice for several years before crossing over to work in pharmaceuticals in pursuit of a more family friendly work life balance. I made this transition in anticipation of starting a family. 3 months into maternity leave my position was made redundant. I had the option to accept the redundancy or a new role which would have involved significant travel. I took the redundancy and spent a year revelling in being a mummy. I was blown away by motherhood (aren’t we all?)  and still cannot fathom the capacity I have to love so profoundly. The days fly by and memories are made. Being a mom is certainly my inspiration for Toys Naturally, and I feel incredibly privileged to be here.
  • Please tell us about some of your favorite products. Mmmmm oh boy….well I love the Heimess range of baby clips and wish I’d known about these products when my daughter was born-lucky second born! I also love love love the Grimms range of blocks and fairy blocks.  They are as at home on a desk as an executive toy as they are on a lounge coffee table or in a child hands! They make play accessible and acceptable! Play is hugely undervalued and has enormous benefits for the brain, and for ones sense of well being. My final favourite are the Fauna trade puzzles, especially the mother and baby ones. They are beautiful chunky, hand made in Europe (so reduced airmiles) and by a small team run by husband and wife which I also like. Mostly I try to sell beautiful toys that will be played with over and over by children (and parents). I love what I do and am passionate about children and preserving and respecting childhood.  I am also very much in love with wood and wooden toys and all things earthy and organic…I think becoming a mum brought out my inner hippy a bit.
  • What is your favorite children's book?  Just 1. Anything by Julia Donaldson and the ‘Tiger who came to Tea’ by Judith Kerr.

We received an Automoblox car from Toys Naturally. If you are not familiar with these, let me tell you. These are beautiful vintage style cars, that the child can take apart and then snap together again! My kids love playing with it.

One lucky reader can win a Mini Automoblox Hot Rod HR1  from Toys Naturally. To enter, please visit Toys Naturally and leave me a comment telling me your favourite toy.
